HENNIKER, N.H. - Johnson women's cross country opened their season with an seventh place finish in the 11 team Mayflower Kick-Off hosted by New England College.  The race was an early look at the venue for the 2012 North Atlantic Conference Championships on October 27.

Husson University was the meet's top finisher with a score of 26 while Green Mountain College came in second with 89.  Finishing in third was Babson College scoring 98.

Babson had the top individual finisher in the race with Marina Capalbo (Gainesville, Va.) crossing the finish line with a time of 20:34.  New England College's Rachel Orlando (Westerly, R.I.) came in second (20:51) and then four Husson runners, led by Alecia Palmer (Presque Isle, Maine), took the next four spots.

Johnson's top runner was sophomore Jill Porter (Springvale, Maine/Sanford) who came in 15th (23:30) place while freshman Bria Wolters (Barre, Vt./Spaulding) came in 35th (25:23).  Sophomore Jackie Caron (Grand Isle, Vt./Essex) was 57th (27:54), freshman Amanda Bortlein (Ludlow, Vt./Black River) was 71st (29:48), and senior Anna Allen (Shelburne, Vt./Champlain Valley Union) (pictured) came in 77th (30:15).

Johnson will run again on Saturday, September 8 at the Castleton Invitational at Castleton State College.
