WBB: Shipley, Jackson, Lead Wildcats Past Badgers 66-50.

Johnson, Vt.- The SUNY Poly Women's Basketball team defeated Vermont State Johnson on Friday night 66-50 behind 14-point performances from both Hannah Shipley and Alysa Jackson. The Wildcats used a 21-2 start in the first quarter to race out with a strong lead. With the win, the Wildcats improved to 6-15 overall and 5-5 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

It was all Wildcats in the first quarter as Alysa Jackson scored 8 of her 14 points in the quarter to get the Wildcats off to a hot start. Strong defense and rebounding by the Wildcats helped the strong first-quarter effort, and they would take a 21-2 lead going into the second quarter. The Badgers would dig deep, however, outscoring the Wildcats 12-9 in the quarter to cut it to a 30-14 Wildcats lead heading into halftime. Faith Meade led the Badgers in the second quarter with 6 points.

The Wildcats offense would match its first-quarter effort in the third quarter on Friday evening, once again scoring 21 points to extend their lead. Alivia Turk and Hannah Shipley both scored 8 points in the third quarter to give the Wildcats a 51-25 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Despite winning the fourth quarter, the Badgers would be unable to overcome the large deficit as the Wildcats would hold onto the 66-50 lead to get back to .500 in conference play.

Hannah Shipley, Alysa Jackson, and Alivia Turk would all finish in double-digits for the Wildcats, while Amanda Sweet would add 6 points off the bench.
