Syracuse, N.Y - The SUNY Poly Softball team dominated the Vermont State Johnson Badgers over a three game series. Thanks to some hot bats and stellar pitching, the Wildcats ended all three games in five innings. The trio of wins pushes the Wildcats to 13-4 on the season.
GAME 1:
Trinity Critelli was on the mound in game one, pitching a stellar five innings, only allowing one run on five hits as well as striking out 10 batters. Kimberly Birmingham led the way at the plate for the Wildcats, going 3-3 and picking up 3 RBIs.
Two strong offensive innings in the 2nd and 3rd was all the Wildcats would need to secure a win. RBI hits from Ava Faragon, Kimberly Birmingham, Kelly Powell and Taylor Hunter helped the Wildcats build a 9-0 lead by the end of the 4th inning.
The Wildcats would go on to win game one of the series in five innings by a score of 9-1.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Kimberly Birmingham went perfect at the plate (3-3) picking up 3 RBIs.
- Joy Stevens went 2-3 on the day.
- Trinity Critelli pitched a five inning, one run complete game.
GAME 2:
The bats were clicking in game two, as 11 of the 13 Wildcat batters that stepped to the plate registered a hit. A seven run first inning, kicked off by an RBI triple from Amy Desena got the Wildcats off to a great start. Joy Stevens, Taylor Hunter, Kaitlyn Findlay and Ava Faragon all joined DeSena in the RBI column throughout the inning.
Behind a few RBI singles from Alivia Turk, Kimberly Birmingham, Taylor Hunter and Amy DeSena, SUNY Poly would go on to defeat the Badgers by a score of 15-1 in game two.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Joy Stevens pitched a five inning complete game, only allowing one run on three hits.
- Amy DeSena went 3-4 at the plate, registering 3 RBIs
- Taylor Hunter went 2-2 with two RBIs
GAME 3:
The Wildcats picked up where they left off in the first inning of Game three, scoring three runs in the first behind a couple of RBI hits from Joy Stevens and Jadyn Childers.
The next few innings remained quiet, as Critelli for the second time in as many days was making it tough on Badger hitters. Critelli would finish the day with 12 strikeouts, further pushing her all-time record to 428.
Behind a four run bottom of the 5th inning, the Wildcats would close the game on top by a score of 8-0.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Jadyn Childers went 3-3 picking up an RBI.
- Ava Faragon went 3-4.
- Trinity Critelli picked up another win after striking out 12 batters over five innings.
