Myrtle Beach, SC - The SUNY Delhi softball team returned to action for day 2 of their southern trip, remaining perfect and improving to 4-0 on the season.
Similarly to the day prior, Delhi would find themselves trailing early after just the top frame. Delhi would respond in the bottom half, tying the contest at one apiece on a wild pitch. Johnson would keep the pressure on to start the second inning, plating one run to regain the lead. The Broncos would eventually break through in the bottom of the third inning, totaling five runs. Delhi would continue to be a problem for the Badgers on the base path, recording another run off a wild pitch, while adding two more on double steal attempts. Senior Danielle Seymour would drive in the first run of the day with an RBI double, followed by an RBI single from Sarah Ostrander. The same duo would come through with RBIs in the bottom of the fifth along with an RBI single from Angelina Dickel, giving the Broncos a commanding 9-3 lead. The Badgers would hang around with a bases-clearing double in the top of the sixth to cut the lead to just three. Delhi would respond in the bottom half with three runs of their own, closing the door on a last-ditch Johnson comeback attempt. First-year Alethea Ferrara provided another strong relief outing as the Broncos secured the 12-6 victory.
In game two, Delhi would strike early in the top of the second inning with two runs behind a Jaden Taylor RBI single and wild pitch. Lyndon would answer back in the bottom of the third inning, recording five hits on five runs to take a three-run lead. The Broncos would continue to battle, posting a four-run fourth inning spearheaded by RBIs from Samantha Martin and Cayla Moroni. The Hornets would prove their resilience, taking the lead back with a four spot of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Delhi has earned themselves the nickname "The Comeback Kids," refusing to be put away as they would regain the lead once again the following inning. It would take some strong base running coupled with RBIs from Jaden Taylor and Alethea Ferrara; the Broncos would hold a narrow 10-9 lead. Ferrara would close the door on the mound in back-to-back games to secure another thrilling victory.
The Broncos look to remain hot Friday with a double-header against Massachusetts Maritime.
