Knights Top Badgers in Granite City Shootout Finale

BARRE, Vt.-The Northern Vermont University-Johnson men's basketball team's strong second half wasn't enough in the finale of the 2019 Granite City Shootout as the Knights edged the Badgers by a score of 83-75.

Robert Dubose led the Badgers with a double digit scoring and rebounds. Dubose scored 17points and added 10 rebounds in the contest. The Knights went on an early run that was generated by Jeremiah Shaw, Chance Cole and Mario Mirchev. Shaw led the Knights with 17 points and shot an impressive 9-10 from the charity stripe. 

Vermont Tech took their biggest lead of the contest with six minutes remaining in the first half leading the Badgers by 20. It wasn't until the second half that the Badgers took advantage of the Knights with a big performance from Floyd Davis who scored 15 points and added 10 rebounds. Braxton Benvenuti recorded 13 points while knocking down three shots from behind the arc and Kiyl Mack rounded out the top Badger performers scoring 12 points and adding five rebounds. NVU-Johnson took their first lead of the contest in the second half before turnovers led to VTC controlling the lead and earning the win by a score of 83-75.

The Badgers won the turnover battle only giving the ball away 18 times to the Knights 22 times.

With the loss the Badgers fall to 2-4 on the season and will host Middlebury College on Tuesday, November 26 at 5:00pm.
