JOHNSON, Vt.-The Northern Vermont University-Johnson men's basketball team returned to the community this past week to give back to local elementary students at Johnson Elementary and Cambridge Elementary.

The NVU-Johnson men's basketball team traveled just 0.7 miles to Johnson Elementary School to continue the Read Aloud program last Thursday morning. The members of the men's basketball team had the opportunity to visit with grades K-2 to read children's books. The elementary school serves 286 students in grades pre-kindergarten through sixth grade.

At Johnson Elementary the value is within a school community that promotes all forms of success. The classroom teachers and support staff prepare students for social, emotional, and academic growth by fostering collaborative and engaging learning opportunities. "As a group we were very excited to get the opportunity to bring the Read Aloud program to a school that is so close to our campus," said Head Coach Miles Smith. "As we grow this program over the course of the next few years we want to better implement and continue to practice being mentors to the younger elementary students within our community."
