Late Badger Run Not Enough in Loss to Bears

CLERMONT, FL.- The Northern Vermont University-Johnson women's softball team concluded Thursday afternoon's games when they faced St. Joseph's College- Brooklyn. The Bears earned the win by a score of 21-4.

The first inning was scoreless ifor both sides, but the Bears broke out in the top of the second, beginning with an RBI from senior Jessica Vento scored a fellow teammate. Fellow senior Gabriella Fielding followed with a two-bagger that scored Vento while Sierra Bedrin, Ashleigh Hartwig, and Alexis Buchanan also doubled in what became a seven-run second.

An SJC error and pair of NVU-Johnson singles set the Badgers up with bases loaded in the bottom of the third but Laura Datillio and Lindsey LaPerle recorded hits to put the first Badger run on the board. Five St. Joseph's hits led to two more scores in the fourth, but they stranded the bases loaded as they led 9-1.

The Badgers had another opportunity to capitalize on runs in the bottom of the fourth with bases loaded and Kristy Svarczkopf recorded a hit to right center field to drive three runs in to cut the deficit to just five runs.
