Women's Volleyball Advances to Vermont Volleyball Classic Championship

JOHNSON, Vt.- The Northern Vermont University-Johnson women's volleyball team edged Castleton University on Saturday morning by a score of 3-0.

Senior Nikola Knapova led the way for the Badgers, recording nine kills and four service aces. Freshman Aleesia Smith added seven kills for the contest.

In the first set, the Spartans started hot, scoring nine of the first 11 points. The Badgers climbed back, tying it 13-13, and eventually won the set 25-19. Freshman Mason Lores continued to be an impact defensively and helped the Badgers attack with 25 assists for the match.

In the second set of action, the Badgers jumped ahead early by a score of 8-3. The Spartans climbed back and tied it 13-13. Both teams went back and forth until the Badgers late in the set took control, scoring seven unanswered points and eventually won 25-16.

In the final set of action, the Badgers went ahead early in the third stint, with a scoring run of 10-4. Despite the Spartans scoring five unanswered points to cut into their deficit, the Badgers stayed composed and went on a 9-1 run, eventually winning 25-15.

With the win the Badgers improve to 2-1 on the season.
