Women's Tennis All-Conference Honors Fall 2021 - NAC (nacathletics.com)
Waterville, Maine - The North Atlantic Conference is pleased to announce Women's Tennis All-Conference honors for the Fall 2021 season. Kiara Goggin (Thomas College) and Mason Lores (NVU-Johnson) share Player of the Year honors. Husson's Emily Doten is the Rookie of the Year and NVU-Johnson's Becca Simon is the Fall 2021 Women's Tennis Senior Scholar Athlete. Josh Warren of Husson University and Rob Disch of Thomas College share Coach of the Year accolades.
In addition to the major conference awards, eight student athletes were named to the All-Conference Singles and Doubles Teams, and four players were selected to the Sportsmanship Team. The NAC Women's Tennis Sportsmanship Team is reserved for those who have distinguished themselves through demonstrated acts of sportsmanship and ethical behavior. The honorees have positively affected the women's tennis culture and match environment by clearly demonstrating sportsmanship and integrity beyond the tennis playing rules and etiquette.
Husson University won the Fall 2021 NAC Championship on Saturday, and will compete in a crossover championship match with the United East champion in the spring. The NAC/United East Champions will advance to the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis national championship tournament in May 2022.
Co-Player of the Year
Kiara Goggin, Thomas College
A junior out of West Gardiner, Maine, Kiara Goggin shares NAC Women's Tennis Player of the Year honors for the Fall 2021 season. Goggin played #1 singles for the Terriers and won both NAC matches in that position. She bested her Player of the Year counterpart Mason Lores in a competitive straight-set win (7-5, 7-5) and picked up the lone win in a team loss to Husson, beating their number one in straight sets (6-4, 6-2). She also partnered with fellow All-Conference player Lauren Smith at first doubles and lost only one match in NAC play.
Mason Lores, NVU-Johnson
Newport, Vermont native Mason Lores shares NAC Women's Tennis Player of the Year honors for the Fall 2021 season. The junior played first singles and first doubles for the Badgers, collecting 2-1 records against NAC opponents in both. Lores was named to the All-Conference Singles Team, and Doubles Team with Becca Simon. Impressively, she also plays volleyball for NVU-Johnson during the fall season.
Rookie of the Year
Emily Doten, Husson University
Husson University's Emily Doten is the Fall 2021 NAC Women's Tennis Rookie of the Year. The sophomore out of Pembroke, New Hampshire was undefeated in NAC singles matches, playing in first, second, and third positions - and won each match in straight sets. Doten also collected conference wins with several different doubles partners, finishing 1-1 at #1 doubles and 1-0 at #3 doubles.
Senior Scholar Athlete
Becca Simon, NVU-Johnson
NVU-Johnson Badger Becca Simon is the Fall 2021 Women's Tennis Senior Scholar Athlete. Simon currently holds a 3.82 GPA while juggling a major in Wellness and Alternative Medicine and two minors in Anthropology and Sociology. Her course load each semester has been no less than 18 credit hours and she still managed to serve her community as a Resident Assistant, Orientation Leader, Student Government Advisor, and Director of Student Clubs. The New Prague, Minnesota native has also captained the Women's Tennis team for two years while occupying roles at second singles and first doubles. She and Mason Lores snagged a spot on the All-Conference Doubles Team with a 2-1 NAC record.
Co-Coach of the Year
Rob Disch, Thomas College
Co-Coach of the Year Rob Disch led Thomas to their first appearance in a NAC Women's Tennis Championship match this fall. His squad was 2-1 in regular-season NAC matches and finished 6-6 overall. Coach Disch guided Co-Player of the Year Kiara Goggin, as well as her #1 doubles partner Lauren Smith, to both Singles and Doubles All-Conference Team recognition.
Josh Warren, Husson University
Husson's Josh Warren earns his third NAC Coach of the Year award following the team's fourth consecutive title and second of 2021. The Eagles won the Fall 2021 Championship with a 5-0 decision over Thomas College on Saturday after winning the trophy in the spring of 2021. Warren's squad earned championship hosting rights this fall with an undefeated NAC season. Eagles' first-year Emily Doten earned Rookie of the Year and All-Conference Singles honors, and two additional Eagles were recognized as among the best in the NAC.
