Beavers best the Badgers with a late goal for a 2-1 win at Minaert Field.

Johnson, Vt

Coming into the game both Northern Vermont University-Johnson and University of Maine-Farmington both saw action in North Atlantic conference opening match ups on Saturday verses Cazenovia and Husson respectively.  Both teams ready to come back strong following opening day losses.  Today's game would not disappoint.  although it was a friendly, non-conference match, both team played smart, hard and used ball possession to make it a challenging afternoon for one another.  At the end of the first 45 minutes the score had not change from the opening 0-0.

The teams entered the half with a 0-0 match ahead of them with 45 minutes remaining. As the Badger battle to earn a possession Wesley Swanson attempted cross is misplayed by the UMF defense and goalie which results in goal for the Badgers.  With a 1-0 lead the Badger immediately feel the pressure of the Beavers forwards as they get a quick shot on net, but a save by Patrick Austin keeps the Badgers lead.

The teams continued to work the ball from one side of the field to the other looking for an opening to push the ball forward.  Farmington found a few more opportunity then the Badgers, as they attempt 12 shots on goal to 3 from the Badgers.

As the team jockey for position on each possession the Beavers earn a penalty kick and capitalize to bring the score to 1-1.  The penalty kick streamed pasted the outstretch arms of the Badgers goalie Austin as Jimmy Pelletier ties the match for the Beavers just under 5 minutes after the Badgers goal.

Back and forth action, possession soccer and limited shot opportunities late in the match made for and exciting non-conference match.  As the team look for an scoring chance a corner kick and cross from the Beavers Eric McCallum finds the head of UMF's Yusuf Mohamed to put the Beavers up 2-1 at the 76:18 mark

The Badger worked for a final shot opportunity during the last 14 minutes but were unable to penetrate the Farmington defense as the go down 2-1 to UMF.

The Badgers will be off this week and will return to action next weekend on the road at SUNY Delhi for a NAC match-up.
