Owls Prevail Over Badgers in NAC Doubleheader

JOHNSON, Vt.-The Northern Vermont University-Johnson softball team was back in action as they hosted the University of Maine Presque-Isle on Saturday afternoon in a North Atlantic Conference doubleheader. 

Game 1: UMPI 10, NVU-Johnson 2

Annika Dyhrberg earned two hits for the Badgers and Nicole Mooney and Savannah Dufrense each contributed a hit. The Badgers would open up with a strong effort in the bottom of the first inning scoring two runs. Dufrense doubled to left field before a single from Mooney would drive in the first run for NVU-Johnson. Dyhrberg would then single to left field. A past ball would then advance Mooney and Dyhrberg, followed by Mooney scoring the second run of the inning advancing home off a fielder's choice. 

UMPI would crawl back into the game and took a 3-2 lead at the top of the fourth before exploding in the top of the fifth inning scoring seven runs to earn the first win on the day.

 

Olivia Riitano would earn the win on the mound for the Owls and Mooney would drop to 0-5 on the season.

 

Game 2: UMPI 12, NVU-Johnson 1

It was a similar effort in the second game as the Badgers would score their only run of the contest in the first inning. Dufrense earned the only hit for NVU-Johnson and the Owls would tally 14 hits and 10 runs batted in. 

With a solid 5-1 advantage after three innings the Owls would capitalize scoring six runs in the fourth frame and one run in the top of the fifth inning to secure the win by a score of 12-1. 

Brookelynn Garcia earned the win for the Owls earning five strikeouts and Mooney would earn the loss dropping to 0-6 on the season.

 

 

The Badgers return tomorrow for a doubleheader rematch against the Owls. The games are set for 11:00am and 1:00pm.
