Softball Concludes Conference Weekend with Doubleheader Loss to Owls

JOHNSON, Vt.- The Northern Vermont University-Johnson softball team wrapped up a conference doubleheader on Sunday afternoon against the University of Maine Presque Isle. The Owls came away with an 11-2 win in the opening contest and a 13-1 win in the weekend finale.

 

Game 1: UMPI 11, NVU Johnson 2 

UMPI jumped in front early, scoring five runs on five hits after the first inning off hits by Delaine Strout and Madison Exferd. In the second inning, Melanee Terry would hit a single out to left field, earning an RBI to extend the Owl's lead to 6 - 0 

Entering the next two frames, the Owls would expand on their lead, tacking on five more runs. The senior duo of Annika Dyhrberg and Laura Dattilio would each bat a run in for the Badgers putting them on the board late in the bottom of the fourth and fifth fram. The defensive effort from the Owls would result in a five-inning contest. Nicole Mooney would hit a shot to deep right field to earn a triple for the Badgers while Dyhrberg and Kayla Irick would earn doubles but it wasn't enough as the OWls would hold the Badgers for the contest.

Marissa Valdivia earned the win on the mound for the Owls, while Nicole Mooney drops to 0-7 on the season. 

 

Game 2: UMPI 13, NVU - Johnson 1 

In the second game, The Badgers were led by Dufrense with one run and one hit, Mooney, Mia Blackwell , and Julianna Reed would contribute one hit a piece.

Mooney pitched her second contest of the day for the Badgers. The Owls continued to control the Badgers offensively, scoring ten runs in the first three innings and eventually would earn the win.

Olivia Riitano would earn the win on the mound for the owls, while Mooney drops to 0-8 on the season.

The Badgers will face rival NVU-Lyndon in a rescheduled NAC doubleheader matchup Wednesday, April 21.
