Women's Softball Falls to Hornets in Bottom of the Seventh Inning

LYNDONVILLE, Vt.-Leading by five runs in the fourth inning the Northern Vermont University-Johnson softball team were upset by rival Northern Vermont University-Lyndon by a score of 8-7, in the first game of a North Atlantic Conference doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon. Game two on the day was called after two innings due to rain and will not be rescheduled.

The Badgers took advantage of a pair of Hornet errors to score two runs in the top of the first inning without generating a base hit.  With one out, Savannah Dufresne reached on an error.  The next batter, Nicole Mooney, grounded into a fielder's choice, but another Hornet error allowed Dufresne to score and Mooney to advance all the way to third base.  Mia Blackwell then delivered a sacrifice fly to right field to score Mooney.

In the top of the third inning Johnson continued to capitalize and scored an additional two runs. Dufrense singled, followed by Annika Dyhrberg reaching base from an infield shot. Dufrense would score on an error and the Badgers would reach a 4-1 lead before closing the inning.

Johnson would continue to roll to a 7-2 lead until the Hornets would find momentum and eventually tie the knot at 7-7 before a walk with bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning would give the Hornets the win.

With the loss the Badgers drop to 0-13 on the season and will host Husson University for a NAC doubleheader on Saturday. The Badgers will also celebrate five seniors prior to first pitch.
