VTC Rolls By Johnson in Season-Opener

RANDOLPH, Vt. - Host Vermont Technical College rolled past Johnson State College in the Badgers season-opener 74-45 on Thursday night in non-conference men's basketball action.  The Green Knights improve to 3-0 while JSC starts 0-1, 0-0 North Atlantic Conference (NAC).

VTC was paced by senior guard Kevin Carr (Westminster, Md.) who went for a game-high 20 points on 9-16 shooting.  Junior point guard Alex Tyrell (Sydney, Australia) scored 16, dealt out eight assists, and collected five steals. Freshman forward Tevon Erwin (Albany, N.Y.) added 14 points and freshman wing Lucas Dutil (Barre, Vt.) chipped in with 11 points and seven rebounds.

Johnson was led by sophomore forward Bryan Hickey (Barre, Vt./Spaulding)(pictured) with nine points while classmate Billy Boyd (Walden, Vt./Hazen) and senior Brian Phelps (Milton, Vt./Milton) each scored eight.

Johnson struggled throughout the evening shooting the ball finishing 19-60 (32%) and committing 26 turnovers.

The Green Knights took control early racing to a 47-20 halftime lead and holding control throughout the remainder of the game.

Johnson State will now travel to the Inn at Middletown Tournament hosted by Wesleyan University for a Friday night opening-round game against Curry College at 8:00 pm.  VTC moves on to play at Paul Smith's College also at 8:00 pm on Friday.
