Vermont State University Johnson Athletic Training Mission Statement

The athletic trainers at Vermont State University Johnson provide medical care to all varsity student-athletes. Our mission is to return injured student-athletes to play as quickly as it is safe to do so and keep our student-athletes healthy. At least one athletic trainer covers all varsity athletic competitions that occur on campus and all contact practices and both athletic trainers are directly involved with every varsity team on campus.

We offer treatments ranging from immediate care of traumatic injuries and injury evaluation to physical rehabilitation through the use of manual therapy, therapeutic modalities, rehabilitative exercise, bracing, and taping techniques.  Whenever it is in the best interest of a student-athlete we make referrals to orthopedic physicians, the Campus Health Center, the Counseling Center, and any other relevent medical professionals to assure that our student-athletes are receiving the best care possible.  We work closely with other healthcare providers to return our Badgers to play after injuries that require care outside of our scope of practice.

Athletic Training Staff:

She is also the Athletic Trainer for Vermont Green, a USL league 2 team in Burlington, VT.

Kate received her master’s degree in Physical Education from Adelphi University, where she was also a student-athlete on the Women’s Swimming and Diving team. Kate finished her swimming career at the NE-10 conference championship with a top 8 finish in the 100 free and a top 16 finish in the 50 free. Kate was also a member of three school record holding relay teams. Kate served as an Assistant Coach for the Men and Women’s Swimming and Diving teams her second year of graduate school. Kate graduated with the Gary Barrette Award in PE for outstanding graduate PE student.

While she was in high school, Kate tore her ACL, which was her first taste of Sports Medicine and guided her career choice.

Kate loves living in the Green Mountains and takes full advantage of the amazing skiing and golfing around her, even though a significant amount of her salary goes to buying more golf balls.
