Johnson Falls Short Against Curry 81-73

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - Johnson State College men's basketball fell to Curry College on Friday in the opening round of the Inn at Middletown Tournament hosted by Wesleyan University 81-73.  JSC dips to 0-2, 0-0 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) while Curry moves to 1-1, 0-0 The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC).  Johnson will now play Bard College at 1:00 pm in the consolation game while Curry will face Wesleyan in the title game at 3:00 pm.

Johnson was led by junior Andy Bousono (Philadelphia, Penn./Nueva Esperanza) who had 16 points, six assists and four steals while classmate Cody Camisa (Colchester, Vt./Colchester) (pictured) also scored 16 while adding seven boards.  Camisa also had a strong defensive outing limiting Curry's top scorer Sedale Jones to just 12 points.  Freshman guard Ron Adrian (Schenectady, N.Y./Notre Dame Bishop Gibbons) added 11 points, all the second half, and sophomore guard Scott Moran (Orange, Conn./Amity) chipped in with 10 points.

Curry was paced by John Durkin's 18 points on 9-9 shooting with Jones adding his 12 and Matthew Russell and Eric Gugliemello each scored 10.

Curry lept to a 9-0 lead to open the game but Johnson would take their first lead at 25-24 with 4:17 left in the first half following a Bryan Hickey (Barre, Vt./Spaulding) lay up.

With the game tied at 35 at halftime Curry would surge to a 54-40 lead with 12:46 to play but Johnson would not fade.  Fueled by the shooting of Camisa and Adrian and the penetration of Bousono, JSC would cut the lead to two at 66-64 with 6:22 left to play.

A pair of Jones three-point plays in the next two possessions would provide the Colonels enough to earn the win.
