Husson Coasts Past Johnson 70-47

JOHNSON, Vt. – Visiting Husson University used a 17-3 run toward the end of the first half to key a 70-47 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) men's basketball victory over host Johnson State College on Saturday.  The Eagles improve to 5-9, 5-3 NAC while Johnson slides to 3-11, 3-5 NAC).

Johnson saw only junior point guard Andy Bousono (Philadelphia, Penn./Nueva Esperanza) reach double-figures on the day with 13 points while collecting three steals.  Sophomore Billy Boyd (Hardwick, Vt./Hazen) (pictured) would add six points and seven rebounds.  The Badgers offense was held to 26% shooting on the day while only hitting 2-of-14 3-point field goal attempts. 

Husson received a double-double from junior wing Eric Modica (Kittery, Maine/Traip Academy) who finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds while also getting a game-high 14 points from sophomore guard Phil Leighton (Naples, Maine/Lake Region).  Sophomore Luis Medina (Hartford, Conn./Lee Academy) chipped in with 11 points and four assists.

With the Eagles leading 20-15 with 7:19 remaining the first half junior guard Mike Gonzales (Fort Washington, Md./Friendly) would start the 17-3 surge by knocking down a 3-pointer and go on to net all nine of his points on the day during the run that helped Husson to a 37-21 halftime lead.

Johnson will play the last game of a four-game home stand on Thursday in the next outing when they host Castleton State College on Thursday, January 19 at 5:30 pm.  Husson will move on to host the University of Maine-Farmington also playing on Thursday, January 19 at 5:30 pm.
