Badgers Come Up Short at Colby-Sawyer 77-66

NEW LONDON, N.H. - Johnson State remained close throughout the game but saw host Colby-Sawyer College pull away late for a 77-66 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) men's basketball win on Saturday.  Johnson stands at 4-14, 4-8 NAC while the Chargers improve to 12-6, 9-2 NAC.

Johnson was paced by sophomore guard Scott Moran (Orange, Conn./Amity) who scored 21 points on 8-14 shooting and sophomore forward Bryan Hickey (Barre, Vt./Spaulding) (pictured) who finished with a career-high 20 points and seven rebounds.  Sophomore center Billy Boyd (Walden, Vt./Hazen) supplied eight points and seven boards.

Colby-Sawyer freshman Koang Thok scored a game-high 22 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the way while senior forward James Tobin added 15 points and freshman Mike Dias scored 14 points.  Sophomore Cory Addison recorded a game-high 11 rebounds.

Johnson would jump out to a quick 10-4 lead behind six points from Hickey and four from Moran.  The Chargers would come back and earn as much as a nine point lead in the first half before ending the stanza with a 36-29 edge.

Three times in the second half Johnson would close the lead to three points, the last coming with 5:59 remaining when Moran converted one of two free throw attempts but did not get any closer.  Colby-Sawyer would connect on their final 11 free throw attempts to seal the win.  The Chargers finished the day 23-30 from the stripe compared to the Badgers 15-27 day.

Johnson moves on to play at Lyndon State College on Tuesday at 7:30 pm while Colby-Sawyer will host New England College also on Tuesday at 7:30 pm in their next game.
