Johnson Ends Regular-Season With 60-50 Win At MMA

CASTINE, Maine - Johnson State was able to pick up a 60-50 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) road victory on Saturday at Maine Maritime Academy (MMA) to complete their regular-season schedule with a record of 6-19, 6-12 NAC.  The Badgers will now move to the NAC post-season tournament as the #7 seed at #2 Colby-Sawyer College on Tuesday at 7:30 pm.  Maine Maritime ends their season with a 2-22 record, 1-17 NAC.

Johnson was led by sophomore guard Scott Moran (Orange, Conn./Amity) (pictured) who scored 11 points while junior point guard Andy Bousono (Philadelphia, Penn./Nueva Esperanza) added 10 points.  Senior Alen Turan (Essex, Vt./Essex) chipped in with nine points and sophomore Bryan Hickey (Barre, Vt./Spaulding) and freshman Cory Chase (Milton, Vt./Milton) provided eight points each for the balanced Badgers.

MMA was paced by freshman guard Brandon Teriault and his game-high 16 points while Andy Ball added 15 points.

Johnson used a 42-31 rebounding advantage and a solid 15-19 free throw effort to help key the victory.

The Badgers trailed by seven points with 2:57 remaining in the first half following a Theriault lay up giving the Mariners their largest advantage of the day at 25-18.  JSC would get a lift from their bench as reserves would score six consecutive points and Chase would go 4-4 from the free throw line in the final 1:33 to help the Badgers finish the half on a 10-0 surge and take a 28-25 lead into halftime.

MMA would regain a five-point following a Ball lay up at 38-33 with 10:12 left in the game.  The Mariners would hold their last lead at 48-47 with 6:04 to play but a 3-pointer from Bousono would give JSC the lead for good with 5:44 left.  The triple started a 13-2 surge to complete the game and help the Badgers to the 60-50 final.
