
FARMINGTON, Maine- The Johnson State Badgers dropped a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) game to the University of Maine at Farmington 37-68 Sunday afternoon. The Badgers stand 8-14 on the season and 6-9 in conference play while UMaine advances to 18-5, 13-3 in the NAC.
Johnson State's freshman guard Asim Khan (Torrance, Calif./Torrance) led the Badgers' effort with 10 points. Ben Johnson (Manchester, Maine/Maranacook) and Garrett Clemmer (Windham, Maine/Windham) from Farmington both made it into double-digits scoring 23 and 12 respectively.
The Badgers opened up the first half with a 6-0 run fueled by Ron Adrian (Schenectady, N.Y/ Notre-Dame Bishop Gibbons) and Khan. Despite the lead, by the 15:39 mark, the Beavers had tied the game up with a jumper from Uriah Forest-Bulley to bring the score to 12-12. A fast jumper from Johnson gave Farmington a lead they wouldn't relinquish for the rest of the game. Johnson shot 28% from the field during the first half while the hosts shot 39%. The Badgers were still within striking distance just nine points down, 28-19, at the intermission.
Johnson sunk the first basket of the half but was unable to close the gap on the host's lead. The Badgers went 4-24 in the second half while the Beavers went 14-23. Johnson put up 18 points during the second half, but was unable to surpass their opponents. The game ended 37-68 Farmington's advantage.
The Badgers will return to action after a short break this Tuesday against NAC rival Castleton while University of Maine at Farmington when it travels to Bangor to face archrival Husson University in a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.
