Husson Coasts Past Johnson 85-50

JOHNSON, Vt. – Host Johnson State College saw visiting Husson University sprint to a 17-point half time lead and cruise to an 85-50 North Atlantic Conference men's basketball victory on Friday night in Carter Gymnasium.  The Eagles used a whopping 49-21 rebound advantage to fuel the victory that moves them to 16-8 overall, 13-4 NAC.  Johnson slides to 8-16 overall, 6-11 NAC.

The Badgers were paced by freshman guard Asim Khan (Torrance, Calif./Torrance) and his 16-point night accounting for the only JSC player in double-figures.  Senior guard Andy Bousono (Philadelphia, Penn./Nueva Esperanza) chipped in with nine points and sophomore forward Cory Chase (Milton, Vt./Milton) added eight points.

Senior center Marc Zaharchuk (Richmond, Maine/Richmond) dominated the interior scoring 17 points and adding 17 rebounds on the night.  Senior wing Eric Modica (Kittery, Maine/Traip Academy) scored 12 points, had four rebounds, four assists, and three steals, junior guard Phil Leighton (Naples, Maine/Lake Region) added 11 points, and senior forward Wes Murphy (Norwich, Conn./Norwich Free Academy) provided 10 points and seven boards.

Johnson struggled offensively throughout the contest finishing the game with a  17-for-54 (32%) shooting performance from the field.  The Eagles however, who led from start to finish, canned 34-of-65 (52%) from the field and 7-of-16 (44%) from the 3-point line.

The Badgers will play their final regular-season home game on Saturday when Maine Maritime Academy comes to town for a 1:00 pm tip.  Bousono and fellow senior Cody Camisa (Colchester, Vt./Colchester) will be honored prior to the contest for Senior Appreciation Day.  Husson moves east to face Lyndon State College tomorrow also at 1:00 pm to wrap up their regular-season.  NAC playoff tournament pairings will officially be announced on Sunday with both Johnson and Husson having qualified for post-season action.
