Badgers Down Cadets 86-72 in Season Opener

The Johnson State College men's basketball team notched an 86-72 win over Norwich University Wednesday night at Johnson's Carter Gymnasium in the team's home opener. Johnson State jumps out to 1-0 overall while the Cadets drop to 1-2 on the season. Neither team has played a conference match. 

For the Badgers, sophomore Asim Khan tallied 23 points and two helpers and was followed closely by senior captain, Bryan Hickey who contributed 20 points and one assist. Senior Josh Reed notched 19 points for JSC while Ron Adrian put up a crucial 16 points towards the Badger's winning effort.

For the Cadets, Tom McDonald put 20 points on the board while teammates Evan Tullar and Nickolai Havoutis each contributed 16 and 13 points respectively. 

The Badgers jumped out to an early 7-0 lead in just under five minutes and went up by as many as 13 points in the first half of the game. Despite a mid-period surge led by Havoutis, the Cadets were unable to catch the Badgers before the half giving Johnson a 36-24 advantage. Johnson continued to dominate the pace of play in the second half jumping up by as many as 18 points and were able to hold off the Cadets for the entire period, concluding the game 86-72. 

The Badgers will travel to Eastern Nazarene Friday night at for a 5:30p gam in in the first of two weekend matches while the Cadets will travel to Colby-Sawyer to play a 1:00p game on Saturday.
