Badgers Drop OT Thriller to Hornets

Johnson State battled back from a 17 point deficit, but ultimately fell short as they dropped an overtime battle to North Atlantic Conference (NAC) foe Lyndon State. The Badgers fall to 1-11 overall and 1-5 in the NAC while the Hornets move to 3-8 overall and 2-4 in the conference.

The Badgers were led by Ron Adrian who notched a game high 27 points and collected nine boards. Demetrius Slade earned a double-double shooting 70 percent with 18 points and 14 rebounds. Asim Khan gave the Badgers 16 points and pulled down seven rebounds and dished five assists in the Badgers' loss.

Lyndon saw three players with 16 points; George Carle who also had eight rebounds, Rontrez Purcell who pulled down six rebounds, and David Johnson. Robert Alers tallied a double-double, scoring 11 points and pulling down 10 rebounds in the Lyndon victory.

Johnson started out sluggish allowing Lyndon to go on a 22-10 run. The Badgers were able to turn it around though when they went on a 12-0 tear to tie the game up at 22 with 6:46 remaining in the half. Twenty seconds later, Johnson State found themselves leading 25-22 thanks to a 3-pointer from Waytt Larose. A layup by Lyndon's Alers and a 3-pointer by Johnson put the Hornets back on top and sparked a 18-6 run closing out the half 40-31 in Lyndon's favor.

Jose Berroa put Lyndon on the board first in the 2nd half but was answered by a layup from Adrian. Just two minutes into the half, Khan would spark a 23-12 Badger run with a layup, followed by a three pointer from Adrian. With 3:49 left in regulation Johnson State found themselves tied with a made free throw from Slade. Lyndon answered with a made free throw to give the visitors a brief one point lead. After a quick rally, the Badgers were on top by eight with 1:37 remaining in the contest. Avery King made a layup for the Hornets followed by another layup from Purcell to cut the lead down to 4. Adrian would hit a free throw to put the Badgers up by five with 1:11 left, but that would be the last bucket the Badgers saw. Lyndon's Alers hit a three and Johnson made a crucial layup to tie the game up at 69-69. Khan had a last second shot but it missed just left of the basket which put the game into overtime.

With 1:28 left in overtime, the game was tied up at 75 apiece. Lyndon's Johnson made a free throw, then a layup to put the Hornets up by three with :44 left. Kahn would cut the lead down to just one with a made free throw, but that would be all for the Badgers as Lyndon pulled away to win the game 80-76.

Johnson travels to Castleton Thursday the 15th for a 7:30pm tip while Lyndon travels to Brown University on Monday the 12th to play a non-conference tilt with a 7:00pm tip.
