Lyndon State Pushes Past Badgers, 70-55

LYNDON CENTER, VT. – The Johnson State College men's basketball team fell to Lyndon State 70-55 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) game on Saturday afternoon.

The Badgers drop to 9-14 on the season and 6-10 in the NAC, while the Hornets move to 10-12 on the season and 9-7 in the conference.

1st Half

The game saw six lead changes over the first 15 minutes of the game as neither team was able to create a lot of space until Johnson used a 13-2 run to take a 29-22 advantage with 2:39 to go in the first half.  Two threes from Corey Frost and a layup from Josiah Woodruff helped the Hornets close the gap and go into the break down only three at 33-30.

2nd Half

Jordan Singleton (Palm Bay, Fla.) laid one in at the beginning of the second half but the Hornets held the Badgers scoreless for nearly four minutes while scoring 13 straight for a 43-35 lead. The lead hovered around ten points for seven minutes but the Hornets burst out a 10-0 run capped off by a trey from Raymond Monroe to stretch the lead out to 62-43.  The Hornets held the Badgers at bay until the Badgers made one last push in the final minutes, bringing the final score to 70-55.

Johnson Leaders

Kawaun Chavis (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Singleton led the Badgers with 14 points apiece.  Benjamin Holl (Philadelphia, Pa.)  recorded 10 points while Demetrius Slade (Washington, D.C.) grabbed a game-high seven rebounds, made three steals, and blocked two shots.

Lyndon Leaders

Woodruff led all scorers with 22 points while adding four rebounds and four steals for the Hornets. Monroe followed up with 18 points, on 5-of-9 shooting from behind the arc, and three rebounds.  Eric Vargas and Xavier Colbert dished out seven and six assists, respectively.

Johnson host Green Mountain for their final regular season home game and senior night on Thursday, February 16th at 5:30 p.m. The senior game ceremony will be held immediately following the game.
