Davis, Badgers Battle in Loss to NEC

JOHNSON, Vt.-The Northern Vermont University-Johnson men's basketball team hosted the New England College Pilgrims in a non-conference contest Tuesday afternoon. The Pilgrims edged the Badgers in regulation by a score of 105-95.

Five players scored in double figures for NVU-Johnson. The team was led by Floyd Davis off the bench who contributed 23 points, 16 rebounds and two assists. Davis shot an impressive 11-17 from the field. Braxton Benvenuti connected on four shots from behind the arc and added 17 points and four assists. Jaymes Savage earned a double-double scoring 16 points while adding ten boards and three assists. Kiyl Mack added 15 points and six rebounds and Robert Dubose Jr. rounded out the Badger top performers scoring 10 points on 4-5 from the field. 

Davis and Benvenuti led the Badger surge in the first half working hard on both ends. Davis finished the first stint of action shooting an impressive 7-9 from the floor for 15 points, while adding seven rebounds. Benvenuti was hot from behind the arc making 3-6 shots for 12 points and three assists. It was the Pilgrims that took the 55-51 advantage headed into the break off an impressive 17 points from Jamal Allen. 

In the second half it was the Pilgrims who came out on top scoring 50 points and holding the Badgers to 44. The Pilgrims shot 54.9% from the field for the game while holding the Badgers to 45.9%. 

NVU-Johnson controlled the battle on the boards by outrebounding the Pilgrims 46-32.

With the loss the Badgers fall to 3-7 overall and will head to Elms College on Saturday, December 14 for a 1:00pm tip.
