Shokeye's Strong Performance Not Enough in Loss

JOHNSON, Vt.-The Northern Vermont University-Johnson men's basketball team hosted in state rival Norwich University in their last non-conference contest of the 2019-2020 season. 

The Badgers opened up the first half strong off productive performances from Floyd Davis and Ayodeji Shokeye. Davis went 3-5 in the first stint of action and anchored the Badger defense earning two steals and six boards. Shokeye scored 12 of his team high 27 points in the first half converting on two field goals from behind the arc. The Badgers opened up with a 7-2 run and held the lead throughout the first half leading 26-20 headed into the break. 

In the second half the Cadets closed the deficit until NVU-Johnson went on a run fueled by Davis's defense and gave the Badgers their largest lead of the game leading the Cadets by eleven with 12 minutes remaining in regulation. Caleb Casinas led the Badgers with a team high 20 points and fueled a strong run for the Cadets. The Cadets took their first lead of the contest with six minutes remaining and had their biggest lead of six points. 

Trailing by three with the last shot the Badgers could not capitalize and dropped their final non-conference game of the season to the Cadets by a score of 63-60. The Cadets won the rebounding battle outrebounding the Badgers 45-38.

With the loss the Badgers drop to 3-12 overall and will head to the University of Maine Farmington for a NAC showdown this Friday.
