Dubose Jr. Career Night Ignites Badgers in 86-76 Road Win

NORTHFIELD, Vt.-The Northern Vermont University-Johnson men's basketball team took it on the road Tuesday evening in a rematch against the Norwich University Cadets. The Badgers late second half push resulted in an 86-76 win that was fueled by a career night for senior Robert Dubose Jr.

Dubose led the Badgers scoring 34 points which was the most points scored in a single game since Rob Hazard back in 2014. Dubose Jr. is currently 31 points shy of the 1000-point milestone.

Teammate Ayodeji Shokeye poured in a double double of his own scoring 20 points and and grabbing 20 boards, Malik Moore score eight points, while Romelle Watt also chipped in eight points off the bench for NVU-Johnson.

The Badgers shot an effective 50.7% clip from the field (35-69) and capitalized on turnovers earning 30 points off 19 forced turnovers. The Badgers attack the rim scoring relentlessly inside throughout the contest which resulted in 50 points in the paint.

It was the Cadets that opened up the game on a strong 15-6 run but the Badgers remained composed as they clawed their way back gaining their first lead of the game with just eight minutes remaining in the first half. Both teams would go back and forth through the half until the final possession when Dubose awaited the clock to run down before hitting a jumper of his own to take the 39-37 advantage headed into the break.

The Badgers would hold the lead until Jesse Davis converted on a three of his own to give the Cadets their first lead of the second half at the 9:18 mark forcing a Badger timeout. A combination of Badger baskets in transition and layup by Moore regained the lead for NVU-Johnson with just 3:48 remaining. The Badgers would advance their lead to 11 points and eventually would go on to win 86-76.

With the win men's basketball improves to 2-3 on the season and will return to Carter Gymnasium on Thursday, March 4 to face rival NVU-Lyndon at 6:00pm.
