SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. – Bryan Fitzgerald (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) and Cam Wood (St. Albans, Vt./BFA-St. Albans) finished 1-2 at the 2011 Vermont State Collegiate Golf Tournament held at Vermont National Country Club on Wednesday to lead Castleton State College to the win by seven strokes over second-place Saint Michael's College. Fitzgerald's 74 gave him Medalist honors while Wood finished just two strokes behind with a 76 as the Spartans' 313 team score bested the Purple Knights' 320. Vermont Technical College came in third with a score of 362, Johnson State College came in fourth with a 396, and Green Mountain College was fifth with a tally of 420.
George Flanagan's (Andover, Mass./Andover) 78 led the Saint Michael's while VTC's Travis Beayon fired an 83 pacing their side. Green Mountain was topped by Tim Daniels' 83 and Shane Stangel (Old Saybrook, Conn./Old Saybrook) was best for the Badgers shooting an 89. Castleton's Dan Hogan (Shelburne, Vt./Rice Memorial) shot a 78 tying him with Flanagan for third.
