2011 North Atlantic Conference Men's Golf Championship Preview

JOHNSON, Vt. – Johnson State College will serve as the host institution for the 2011 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Men's Golf Championship this weekend with the two-day event being held at the Country Club of Vermont in Waterbury.  The championship will feature seven institutions competing for the conference title and a birth into the NCAA Division III National Tournament held in the spring.

Husson University will look to extend their consecutive NAC title streak to six seasons as they return four players from the 2010 NAC All-Conference Team including 2010 runner-up Matt Loubier (Winslow, Maine/Winslow).  The Eagles will receive strong competition from the likes of Castleton State College, 2010 runner up and who features 2010 Medalist Will Banfield (Montpelier, Vt./Kimball Union Academy), in addition to Green Mountain College, Johnson State College, Maine Maritime Academy, the University of Maine-Farmington, led by 2010 Rookie of the Year Joe Messerman (Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick) and Salem State University.  Salem State will make their first appearance in the NAC Championships and are led by three-time 2011 NAC Golfer of the Week Nick Zolotas (Peabody, Mass./St. John's Prep).

The tournament is set to start at 11:06 am on Saturday with tee times for the opening day predetermined.  Sunday's tee times will be determined by results from day one and will begin at 8:30 am in a shotgun format.

Where – Country Club of Vermont, Waterbury, Vermont

Competing Institutions – Castleton, Green Mountain, Johnson State (host), Maine Maritime, Maine-Farmington, Salem State

Saturday Start – 11:06 am

Sunday Start – 8:30 am (Shotgun)

Format – The championship will be a 36-hole format with five golfers from each institution competing.  The scores of the lowest four individuals on each team, total strokes over the two days, will count toward the team total.  The team with the lowest total will be declared the champion.
