Johnson Takes 3rd at Newbury

Senior Cameron D'Agostino guided the Newbury College men's golf team to a season-low 323 team score, firing a season-best score of a 79 to defeat Emmanuel College and Johnson State College, Friday afternoon.

D'Agostino opened the day with a birdie on the short, 481-yard par five after splitting the fairway on his first drive. It was the only birdie of the day for the North Shore native, who finished the afternoon with eight pars to tie him with classmates David Hart  and Stephen Peltier.

After a rocky start to the match, going four-over through the first five holes with a double bogey, Hart answered with birdie on the 521-yard par five sixth hole to right the ship. The New Hampshire native, who finished the day leading the 19-player field at one-under on the par fives, turned in a scorecard of an 81 along with Peltier to finish tied for third.

Emmanuel College junior Matteo Pocobene  led the Saints carding an 80 to finish second behind only D'Agostino. Following a double bogey on his opening hole, Pocobene settled down to par seven of the next eight holes to finish the front nine with a four-over score of a 40 and led the field with 12 pars.

Newbury senior Danny Lumb  was right behind Pocobene, registering 10 pars on the day. The Nighthawks' two-sport athlete fired a three-over par, 38, on the back nine after a rough front-side to finish with an 81.

Johnson State senior Josh Reed led the Badgers firing a team-low score of a 97 to finish 14th.

The Nighthawks return to the links on Wednesday September 24th when they travel to Chicopee, Mass. for the Elms College Blazers Invitational at 10:00 a.m.
