PORTLAND, Maine (April 31, 2011) - Host St. Joseph's College of Maine outscored visiting Johnson State College 9-2 in a decisive second half to pull away for a 16-7 non-conference men's lacrosse victory on Thursday night under the lights at Deering High School in Portland, Maine.  Johnson falls to 0-2 overall while the Monks move to 5-4 overall.

JSC junior Justin Connolly (Jeffersonville, Vt./Lamoille) knotted the game at 1-1 with 8:49 with an unassisted goal and sophomore Chandler Halbur (Wilmington, Vt./Twin Valley) would add a first period goal as the Monks would hold a 3-2 lead after the first stanza.

After goal's from Benson Pasquarello and Paul Dolewa gave SJC a 5-2 cushion, the teams would alternate on five scores as the Monks took a 7-5 lead into halftime.  JSC received a goal in the second period from sophomore Zach Jerome (Waterford, Conn./Waterford) and a pair of scores from junior Alex Petti (East Greenwich, R.I./East Greenwich).

Junior Justin Nelson (Lakeville, Mass./Bishop Connolly) set up senior Jason Dubie (South Burlington, South Burlington) for a score just 30 seconds into the second half to make the score 7-6 but that would be as close as the Badgers would get the rest of the evening.

The Monks would score the next five goals to surge to a 12-6 lead with 13:58 left to play in the contest with goals with Dolewa scoring his third goal of the contest to complete the run.

Petti would net his third score of the game to end the run at 13:40 of the 4th but a quartet of Monks scores to end the game would account the 16-7 final with three of those goals coming from Zachary Chaisson.

Chaisson would lead all scorers on the night with four goals while Dolewa finished with three and Pasquarello, Blake Edwards, and Spencer Hunt each had two goals for St. Joseph's.

Nelson would dish out three assists on the night for Johnson while Connolly would add an assist to his score to help account for the Badger offensive production.

JSC's Branden Sawyer (East Greenwich, R.I./East Greenwich) made 16 saves to keep Johnson in it while the Monks' Christopher Driscoll made six stops to pick up the win.

St. Joseph's would hold significant advantages in shots (70-21) and groundballs (58-37).

Johnson will open with North Atlantic Conference play with a contest Saturday at Castleton State College slated for a 1:00 pm start while SJC will also play on Saturday at 12:45 against Lasell College.
