Thomas Tames Johnson 18-5

Waterville, Maine - Johnson State College men's lacrosse were on the wrong end of an 18-5 decision on Sunday against Thomas College in a game played at Colby College due to field conditions.  The Badgers fall to 1-4 overall, 1-2 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) while Thomas improves to 2-5, 2-0 NAC.

 

Thomas began the scoring about a minute into the game with a goal by Gunnar Shelton off an assist from Sean Machin. The Terriers jumped out to a four goal lead before Matt Dekens (Johnson, Vt.) scored the first Badgers' goal with a minute and a half remaining.

 

Freshman Matt Quesada scored on a man up opportunity to begin the second quarter. Thomas took an 11-1 lead at the half outshooting Johnson St. 24-14 in the half.

 

Johnson St. scored four goals in the second half, with two more from Dekens and two from Alex Petti (East Greenwich, R.I.). Starting goalkeeper Branden Sawyer (East Greenwich, R.I.) made eight saves and allowed 14 goals in 45 minutes of action before being replaced. Jeff Boesse (Warren, Vt.) finished out the last 15 minutes recording five saves.

 

Quesada finished the game with four goals. Four Terriers also finished the game with three goals apiece; Scott Dumas, Machin, Bradley Stiles, and Jeffrey Morse. The defense for the Terriers stepped up today as well causing 34 turnovers against Johnson St. Goalkeeper Jesse Morkeski made 17 saves and allowed five goals.

 

Johnson will step out of conference in their next contest on Thursday at Norwich University at 4:30 pm.  The Terriers will be back in action this Wednesday, April 13, as they travel to Maine Maritime for a 7:00p.m. start.
