The Spartans built up a 13-1 halftime advantage on the way to a 22-3 victory over Johnson State on senior night in Spartan Stadium. 

Castleton's four seniors in the field combined for ten goals while classmate Peter Latulippe earned the victory in net as the Spartans outshot the Badgers 57-10 to improve to 9-6 and 6-1 in conference play. Johnson State dropped to 2-9 and 1-6 as they picked up 40 less ground balls, 54-14, and won just 4 of 29 faceoffs. 

Senior Matt Levins registered his first career first hat trick, to go along with one assist, five ground balls and three caused turnovers. Classmate Taylor Swarter chipped in three goals and four ground balls, while Zach Devoid and Graeme Pike each scored twice. Pike also went 11-for-12 on faceoffs with four ground balls. Freshman Jason Sedell added three goals, two assists and four ground balls.

Mason Phillips scored two of the Badgers' three goals on four shots while Zach Shuttle added an assist, two ground balls and one caused turnover. Rhys Keenhold chipped in one goal and three ground balls. 

Levins gave Castleton a 1-0 advantage just 1:57 into the contest, but Phillips responded two minutes later to tie the game 1-1. Devoid put the Spartans back in front and then Swarter, Sam Frackleton, Pike and Isaac Devoid extended the lead to 6-1 with 4:56 left in the first. 

The Spartans added two more goals in the first and Wyatt Pickrell and Nik Rancourt stretched the lead to 10-1 with ten minutes left in the half. Levins and Joshua Gosselin then scored just seven seconds apart for an 11-goal lead as Castleton pushed it to 13-1 at the half. 

Swarter provided the only goal of the third, and Sedell opened the fourth-quarter scoring with 8:41 left in regulation. Levins added his third goal a minute later for the 16-1 lead and Castleton outscored Johnson State 6-2 the rest of the way. 

Latulippe earned the win in net as he made one save while allowing a goal in 30 minutes. Romello Lindsey made one save in the third quarter while Brandon Myron allowed two goals with two saves in the fourth. Jay Palmisano took the loss for the Badgers as he allowed 22 goals and stopped 16 shots. 

In addition to scoring once, Gosselin won 9 of 11 faceoffs and picked up a team-high seven ground balls. Eric Coslett scored twice and picked up two ground balls. 

Castleton returns to action on Tuesday when the team travels to face Green Mountain at 4 pm while Johnson will travel to Wheelock
