JOHNSON, Vt. – Daniel Webster College scored on a corner kick in the 4th minute and made it stand up to earn their first victory of the early season over host Johnson State College in non-conference men's soccer action on Saturday at Minaert Field.  DWC improves to 1-1, 0-0 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) while Johnson falls to 2-2, 0-0 North Atlantic Conference (NAC).

The Eagles' Elliot Kilgore (Milford, N.H./Milford) found space on the far post to head home the game's only score off a nicely-placed corner kick by Alex Jackson (Kent, Ohio/Theordore Roosevelt) just 3:58 into the contest.

Joe Keene (Bristol, N.H./Newfound) made six saves to pick up the win for Daniel Webster while Johnson's Ryan Belen (Northvale, N.J./Northern Valley) made three stops in the first half and getting tagged with the loss.  Sam Martin (Essex, Vt./Essex) relieved Belen for the second and also recorded three saves.

The Eagles finished the day with a 20-8 shot advantage and a 9-6 edge in corner kicks.

JSC's best scoring opportunity came with about five minutes remaining the game when Peter Wanjiku (South Burlington, Vt./South Burlington) shot a ball that rebounded off Keene toward Gai Gai (Burlington, Vt./Burlington) who quickly poked at the ball but sent it right of the goal.

Johnson State will now prepare for their first North Atlantic Conference tilt of the 2011 season when they host Green Mountain College on Saturday at 1:00 pm while Daniel Webster will travel to cross-town rival Rivier College on Tuesday at 7:00 pm.
