Terriers Blank Johnson 2-0

JOHNSON, Vt. – Visiting Thomas College scored early in the first half off a corner kick and then sealed it with a goal with under a minute to play, both goals coming from sophomore Michael Hand (Essex, England), to take a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) men's soccer decision on Saturday at Minaert Field.  Thomas improves to 4-1, 1-1 NAC while Johnson slips to 3-3-1, 1-1 NAC.

Thomas' first goal came on a corner kick struck by freshman Mattias Schyberg (Ekero, Sweden) that Hand got his head on simultaneously with Johnson keeper Sam Martin's (Essex, Vt./Essex) outstretched hands.  Hand was able to get more of it and send it to the back of the net for the 1-0 lead.

The Terriers received the insurance goal with :48 remaining when Hand took a feed to the right side after a run up the middle of the pitch by Khamisi Lightborne (Sandy's, Bermuda).  Lightbourne found Hand who collected and placed a shot just inside the left post for the final 2-0 margin.

Thomas keeper Mikkail Crockwell (St. David's, Bermuda) made five saves en route to the shutout.  Martin made four saves over the first 45 minutes in the loss while Ryan Belen (Northvale, N.J./Northern Valley) played the second half making five saves for JSC.

Johnson will step out of conference for their next match on tomorrow at 3:00 pm when the Badgers play at SUNY-Canton.  Thomas will play at home tomorrow at 1:00 pm, also in non-conference action, against Bates College.
