Spartans Overwhelm Johnson in Men's Soccer

CASTLETON, Vt - Castleton scored early and often on its way to a 7-0 victory over Johnson State on a cold and rainy evening Wednesday at Spartan Stadium.  The Badgers fall to to 4-10-1 on the season and 1-7 in the North Atlantic Conference while Castleton climbs to 9-5-1 overall and 6-1-1 in the NAC with the victory.

The Spartans received two scores from Jake Ferry (Warwick, R.I.), John Kendall (Springfield, Vt.), and Trevor Kotrady (North Clarendon, Vt.) and Tanner Lecuyer (Plattsburgh, N.Y.) added a goal.  Assists came from Kendall, Spencer Dandurand (Colchester, Vt.), and Dameon Young (Fairfax, Vt.).

Johnson's Sam Martin (Essex, Vt./Essex) was kept busy all night stopping 14 shots as the Spartans fired 44 total for the match.

Sophomore Nate Koenemann (Montpelier, Vt.) played the first half and made one stop for his ninth victory of the season. Freshman Travis Powers (Cornwall, N.Y.) saw his most extended time of the season and delivered with one save in a scoreless half of action.

Now mathematically eliminated from the playoff contention, the Badgers will wrap up their season with at match at the University of Maine-Farmington on Saturday at 3:00 pm.  Castleton will now play at Colby-Sawyer College on Tuesday, October 25 at 3:30 pm.
