Newbury Edges Johnson 2-1 in 2OT

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Johnson State men's soccer came up short in double overtime on Sunday falling 2-1 to Newbury College.  The Badgers are now 0-5, 0-0 North Atlantic Conference while the Nighthawks improve to 2-2, 0-0 New England Collegiate Conference.

Newbury's Shaundize Moosavizadeh scored the game-winner with just over a minute to play in the second overtime, his second goal of the game, with David Linder getting the assist.

Johnson forced overtime late in regulation when Keegan Hanlon (North Haven, Conn./North Haven) (pictured) took a pass from Chandler Halbur (Wilmington, Vt./Twin Valley) and beat Newbury keeper Jeremy Bergeron with just under nine minutes to play.

The Nighthawks grabbed the 1-0 lead 14:12 into the game when Moosavizadeh scored an unassisted goal beating Johnson goalie Ryan Belen (Northvale, N.J./Northern Valley).

Belen would finish with 13 saves on the day for the Badgers in a strong outing while Bergeron recorded two stops in the win.

For the game Newbury held the edge in shots (27-6) while Johnson had one more corner kick (2-1).

The Badgers will now look to kick-start their season in their conference opener on Saturday, September 15 at 1:00 pm at Green Mountain College.
