Pilgrims edge Johnson in 2-1 in OT
HENNIKER, N.H.— New England College men's soccer forward Ralph Bertrand (Rowley, Mass.) would net the game-winner just 41 seconds into the first overtime lifting the Pilgrims past the visiting Johnson State College Badgers 2-1 Saturday afternoon.
 
With the win the Pilgrims improve to 8-4-3 overall and 4-1-1 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action.  The loss drops the Badgers to 1-13-0 on the season and 0-6-0 in conference play.
 
Johnson State would start the scoring early as Keegan Hanlon (North Haven. Conn.) (pictured) would net an unassisted goal firing a shot that would be just out of reach of NEC keeper Robert Millard (Barrington, R.I.) in the 18th minute.
 
NEC would knot the game at 1-1 in the 37th minute as Sean Walsh (Kingston, Mass.) would rebound in a shot off the foot of Bertrand.
  
Neither team would muster a goal in the second half of play as the Pilgrims controlled almost the entire offensive out shooting the Badgers 17-2 in the half.
 
The Pilgrims would waste no time in the first overtime as Bertrand would head in a pass from Christopher Welch (Reading, Mass.) just 41 seconds in giving NEC the 2-1 victory.
 
Picking up the win in net for NEC was Millard who finished with two saves.  In net for Johnson was Ryan Belen (Northvale, N.J.) who recorded an impressive 18 saves.
 
NEC will return to action on Sunday, Oct. 14 when they host NAC opponent Lyndon State College.  Johnson will square off against conference foe Colby-Sawyer College in New London on Sunday, Oct. 14.
