Pilgrims Sail Past Badgers

Pilgrims Sail Past Badgers

The visiting Pilgrims traveled to Johnson and sailed to an easy win over the hosts Sept. 29 beating the home squad 4-0. The Pilgrims advance to 6-3-1 overall and 3-0 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play while the Badgers dip to 0-9 on the season and 0-4 in the NAC.

New England College got on the board first with a goal in the 8th minute of play. Andrew Mead crossed the ball into the center of the Badgers eighteen and found teammate Rob Lucas, who connected on a laser shot from 12 yards out that found the back of the net to give the Pilgrims the early advantage 1-0.

The Pilgrims followed up with a second goal in the 35th minute when Sebastian Andersson slithered through the Badgers defense. Badgers goalkeeper Ryan Belen quickly came out of net as the last chance to stop the attempt from Andersson. However, Andersson beat Belen one on one as Belen attempted to recover back to the net, capping the play off with a shot that found the back of an open net to give the Pilgrims a 2-0 edge.

The score would remain 2-0 heading into the second stanza, until in the 72nd minute when New England College struck again to extend their lead to 3-0. Pilgrim Rob Lucas crossed the ball to teammate Zak Harris who headed a ball that ricocheted off a Johnson defender into the back of side netting.

Fifteen minutes later, the Pilgrims offense netted their final goal of the afternoon as Ronsard Masamba crossed the ball to the center of the Badgers eighteen where teammate Connor Douglass settled and rifled a shot lower left to seal the victory for the Pilgrims, 4-0.

Robert Millard and Tenzin Khenrab combined on a 4 save shutout for the Pilgrims, while Ryan Belen had 17 saves in the loss for the Badgers.

The Badgers will return to action Saturday October 5th when they travel to Maine Maritime for a 1:00pm NAC contest while the Pilgrims move on to play Saturday October 5th at fellow NAC institution the University of Maine at Farmington for a 1:00pm match.
