Mariners Best Badgers in Overtime

Johnson State College men's soccer dropped a 3-2 overtime decision to visiting Maine Maritime (MMA), Saturday afternoon at Johnson State. The Badgers slide to 2-5-1 on the season and 0-2 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play while the Mariners advance to 4-4-1 overall and 1-0-1 in the NAC.

Kyle Haslam contributed a brace in the winning effort with help from a single goal from Johnathan Reeks to give Mariners their first conference victory on the year. Johnson State saw goals from Sean Springer and Cory Chase

After a scoreless first half, Haslam broke open the scoring in the scoring in the second stanza of off a Matt Leblanc through ball. Just seven minutes later the Badgers were able to answer when Drew Steady sent a crisp through ball directly to Springer's feet. Springer struck the ball into the lower right corner to equalize the score. Hot off its last goal, Johnson capitalized, converting a cross from Springer into a header goal from Chase to give the Badgers the lead, 2-1. Less than 10 minutes later, MMA tied up the score again when Reeks broke out of a crowd in front of Johnson's net to pass Alex Pakatar

With the score tied 2-2 at the end of regulation, the teams entered 10 minutes of overtime, but that was short lived, as the Mariners were able to capitalize within three minutes ending the game up, 3-2.

In goal for Maine Maritime, Marshall Spear  turned away one shot for the Mariners and was credited with the win. Pakatar finished with an impressive 13 saves on the day.
