Men's Soccer Tops VTC in Season Opener

JOHNSON, Vt. – The Northern Vermont University-Johnson men's soccer team opened the season with a 3-2 victory over Vermont Technical College on Friday afternoon at Minaert Field. Joseph Holloway (Essex County, England) led the Badgers with two goals and an assist in the win.

SCORING

1ST Half: - Alexander Vetere (Craftsbury, Vt.) assisted Holloway with the first goal of the game in the 2nd minute to take a 1-0 lead. Rob Buonanno (Wolcott, Vt.) followed up with a goal 23 minutes into the half assisted by Holloway. Vermont Tech answered with a goal by Phillip Hepburn in the 24th minute.

2nd Half: Holloway tallied his second goal of the day four minutes into the second half assisted by Vetere. Vermont Tech answered the Badgers 20 minutes later with Hepburn's second goal of the day, making the final score 3-2 in favor of the Badgers.

GOALKEEPERS

Gerrit Lane (Moretown, Vt., 1-0) picked up the win with his 1st half performance, saving three shots for the Badgers. Thomas Ferguson (0-1) took the loss, giving up three goals on 12 shots by the Badgers.

NEXT UP

The Badgers are back in action on Sunday, September 2nd when they take on Paul Smith's College in a non-conference tilt, slated to start at 12:00 p.m. at Minaert Field.
