Badgers Take Doubles Matches in Home Opener

STOWE, VT – The Vermont State University Johnson Badgers welcomed the SUNY Delhi Broncos for their first home match of the season Friday evening. The Badgers opened the match strong in doubles, taking two out of three. The pairing of Riley Fitzgerald and Adiance Cheromiah were most dominant, securing their win 8-5, joined by teammates and pair Faith Mead and Mohammed Semega, taking their match in a 9-8 (7-4) tiebreak. The third Johnson doubles pair of Maggie Egan and Matea Smith evenly contested the Delhi pair of Anderson and Shafer, dropping a close match 8-6.

Matea Smith took the momentum of a close doubles match into the singles matchup, ultimately taking the win in a convincing 6-3, 6-3. Egan contributed to the singles efforts with a close match taken by Delhi 7-6 (1), 6-4. Badgers Mead, Cheromiah, and Semega also pushed sets to 6-4 with strong efforts, but would fall to the Broncos with a final score of 6-3.

The Badgers return to the court Wednesday, hosting Vermont State Castleton.
