Aidan Burke Commits to Men's Track and Field

JOHNSON, Vt.-The Northern Vermont University-Johnson men's track and field program and Head Coach Shawn Woods have announced an additional commitment for the 2022 season.

Aidan Burke a native of Sarasota, Florida and a student-athlete at Riverview High School has signed the necessary paperwork and has made his commitment to NVU-Johnson for the fall of 2021. When arrived on campus, Burke plans to pursue a degree and focus towards fine woodworking and furniture design.

"I chose NVU-Johnson because of the amazing setting," said Burke. "The smaller school setting will allow me to have a better connection with my professors and I will be more engaged with the amazing programs on campus."

Coach Woods is very excited about the addition of Burke and hopes he can make an immediate impact to the program. "Aidan is a versatile track athlete possessing both sprint speed and endurance needed for middle distance races and relays," said Woods. "He will be able to handle the diverse weather of Vermont as he spent a good portion of his life growing up in Alaska."

Coach Woods believes Burke will make an immediate impact and contribute to the Badgers in the 200m, 400m and 800m in his first season.

Burke is a seasoned runner as he began running competitively in second grade and earned a spot on his varsity track team as a freshman. Out of season Burke also runs for the Pinnacle Club.

"Coach Woods sounds like a fun, laid back coach who still gets us to compete and push ourselves. I am very excited to see how things will play out when I start running with him."

Head Coach Shawn Woods plans to announce additional commitments for the 2022 season in the near future.
