Badgers Swept By Wells, 7-1 and 6-2

QUEENSBURY, N.Y. - Johnson State fell in both ends of a doubleheader with Wells College on Thursday by the score of 7-1 and 6-2.  The games were played at the Adirondack Sports Complex.  The Badgers dip to 1-9 overall while Wells College improves to 4-0.

In game one it was the bat of Paige Stone that lifted the Express to a 7-1 win as the centerfielder went 3-for-3 with a home run, three runs, and two RBI.  Lorelei Meier pitched a complete game five-hitter while striking out 12 JSC batters on the day.

Johnson sophomore Amber McCullock (Morrisville, Vt./Peoples Academy) connected on two of the Badgers five hits on the day.  Meagan Russ (Burlington, Vt./Burlington) took the losing pitching decision for Johnson allowing 13 hits and seven earned runs while striking out three.

In the night cap the Badgers tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth but Wells' Paige Stone drilled a game-ending grand slam in the bottom of the seventh for the 6-2 final.  Alyson Mann went 2-for-3 with an RBI, a run scored, a stolen base and walk to help key the Express' win.

Mann also earned the winning pitching decision for Wells going the complete game allowing five hits and striking out seven Badger batters.

Johnson saw McCullock have another 2-for-4 performance at the plate while driving in a run.  Tanya Randall drove in a run in her 1-for-3 outing to supplement the Johnson offense.

Kristy McDonnell (Quechee, Vt./Hartford) pitched 5 2/3 innings for Johnson allowing four hits and two earned runs but walked eight Express batters.  Russ relieved McDonnell in the bottom of the sixth, picked up a big final out, but struggled with control in the seventh walking the bases loaded to set up Stone's heroics.

 

Johnson will move on to play at set of games on Saturday at Bay Path College in Longmeadow, Mass. starting at 1:00 pm.
