Eagles Silence Badgers

Johnson State softball dropped a NAC match 9-0 to host Husson University on Saturday before a snow delay postponed game two. The Badgers slide to 5-12 on the year and 5-2 in the conference.

Husson's bats would get going in a big way and the pitching would remain solid as they blanked Johnson State 9-0 in five innings.  Junior first baseman Chelsea Brennan belted a three-run home run in the third inning that would prove to be plenty of run support as Amanda Ryan spun a one-hit masterpiece in the pitching circle.

Ryan earned her seventh win of the 2014 season by allowing just two runners to reach base, and neither of them would end up making it into scoring position.  She retired the first eleven batters she faced before permitting a fourth inning single and a fifth inning base on balls.  Ryan struck out three Badgers, and the Eagle defense played errorless in the field behind her.

Brennan opened the scoring in the game with her third inning blast which hit off the top of the scoreboard beyond the left field fence.  Casey Lopes followed that with a bases loaded two-run single in the fourth inning before Sami Schultz expanded the lead with a two-run double just two batters later.

Husson would tack on two insurance runs in the top of the fifth inning, and Ryan made them hold up to force the run-rule finish after five full innings.

The two teams would come back on the field and begin game two, and the Eagles got out to a hot start by tallying four runs in the top of the first inning.  With just one out and the bases still loaded, the umpires deemed the conditions to be too poor, and wound up postponing the game with the Eagles in the middle of a big inning.  It remains to be seen when the second game will be made up and re-started between Husson and Johnson.

The Badgers will use the week to prepare for their non-conference home opener against Clarkson on Friday, April 18th.
