Johnson Sweeps Me.-Farmington in NAC Play

Johnson State College softball grabbed a pair of conference victories Sunday afternoon beating Me.-Farmington 5-1 in game one and 10-7 in game two.

With the wins the Badgers improve to 3-5 overall and 2-2 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play.  The losses drop the Beavers to 1-5 overall and 0-4 in the NAC.

In game one Johnson would start the scoring in the home half of the first inning. Alex Bean would open the inning with a single, advance to third on a Casey Hogan ground out at second base and then round home on a Anna Bingham homerun to put the Badgers up 2-0.

UMF and the Badgers went scoreless for two full innings until the Beavers got on the board in the top of the 4th. Katie Clark tripled and ended up scoring off of a Johnson error to earn the Beaver's lone run of the day.

Johnson would see three more batters cross the plate in the bottom of the fifth thanks to another homer from Bingham to seal the deal 5-1 for the Badgers. Both teams would play two more scoreless innings before the Badgers claimed the victory.

Johnson's Andrea Williams picked up the win on the mound for the Badgers allowing zero earned runs on five hits, while striking out five.  Me.-Farmington pitcher Emily Vitone pitched the complete game allowing five earned runs on nine hits and struck out three.

Bingham finished the game for the Badgers with three hits and five RBI's while Katie Clark lead the Beavers with two hits on the day.

In game two the Beavers, scored first but only after a scoreless first inning. At the top of the second, Hannah Lust singled, and then advanced to third off of a Natasha DeRoche single. Kennadi Grover's ground out would allow Lust to come home giving the Beavers a slight 1-0 edge. Johnson answered swiftly in the bottom of the second scoring seven runs, thanks in part to a grandslam from Casey Hogan that brought in Alex Bean, Amanda McLean and Sarah Voorhis

Farmington got a run back thanks to a single from Grover to bring Lust home.

Both teams would plate two runs each in the fifth inning and Johnson would hold off the Beavers despite their rally. Johnson walked off the field with a 10-7 win to complete its sweep on the day.

Andrea Williams picked up the complete game two victory on the mound for the Badgers allowing seven earned runs on 11 hits and striking out five.  Courtney Fowlers started on the mound for the Beavers allowing six runs in just over three innings until Abby Burdin stepped in. Burdin allowed four runs off of nine hits.

The Badgers will return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Clarkson for a non-league double header.
