Terriers Take Two on Senior Day

Terriers Take Two on Senior Day

The Thomas College softball team swept the Badgers on their senior day on Wednesday afternoon at Johnson State. Thomas won game one 3-2, and won game two 18-3.

Game 1: Johnson State: 2, Thomas: 3

Thomas earned a solo run early in the game and kept the 1-0 advantage until the bottom of the 7th. Sarah Voorhis singled to bring Anna Bingham home to tie the game in the nick of time. With the run, the two teams headed into extra innings.

The Terriers saw Briana Warren coss home after a Johnson error to give the Terriers a 2-1 lead. The Badgers, not came back and answered the Terriers' run with their own when Kristy McDonnell singled to bring Jennie Moore home, tying the game 2-2.

In the top of the 10th, Thomas scored off of another glove error by the Badgers--an error they couldn't recover from. The Terriers silenced Johnson's bats in the bottom of the 10th inning to walk off with a 3-2 win.

On the mound, Sonja Morse went the distance for the visitors pitching 10 innings, allowing two runs and seven hits while striking out 14 Johnson batters. Andrea Williams was saddled with the loss after allowing just three hits and three runs.

Game 2: Johnson State: 3  Thomas: 18

In game two, Thomas found themselves ahead 1-0 early when Alyssa Eugley knocked  one out of the park over the leftfield fence, brining home teammate Sonja Morse in the process.

The Johnson offense responded at the next chance to tie things up 2-2 by the end of the second. The lead didn't last long though. The Terriers earned three runs in the second inning and four more in the fourth to take the lead 9-2.

The Terriers' bats stayed hot, as the visitors brought in another nine runs in their next at bat opportunity. Unfortunately, errors continued to plague the Badgers, accounting for the play that led the nine run inning.

Thomas' hurler, Emily McKenney, pitched four innings to earn the win before Chelsea Hale came in for one inning with the save. Kristy McDonnell threw for three innings before teammate Sarah Voorhis took the mound, followed by Andrea Williams.

Johnson will return to action on Friday with an doubleheader against Lyndon State for games at 3:00p and 5:00p while Thomas will enter into playoff competition on Friday, May 1st.
