Badgers Capitalize in President's Cup Challenge Matchup

NORTHFIELD, Vt.-The Northern Vermont University-Johnson softball team trumped the NVU-Lyndon hornets in the second game of the evening winning by a score of 12-2 in five innings.

The Badgers held the Hornets scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning but were strong offensively scoring nine runs throughout the first four innings of the contest. The Badgers were led by Emily Marshall and Mary Richardson who contributed three RBI's a piece. NVU-Johnson was in control for most of the contest as Marshall remained strong on the mound after a solid effort in the first game of the evening. Marshall was on the mound for the entire contest while recording three strikeouts. 

The Hornets could never find a rhythm offensively and struggled to get runners on base. Laura Dattilio and Kimberly Reville both recorded a hit for the Badgers but it was the Hornets errors that helped the Badgers capitalize on scoring opportunities. Three runs in the top of the fifth, while holding the Hornets to one run in the bottom of the inning secured the win for the Badgers.

With the win NVU-Johnson improves to 3-11 overall and 2-0 in North Atlantic Conference play and the Horets fall to 0-10 and 0-2 in NAC play.
