WATERVILLE, Maine - Thomas College defeated Johnson State College 73-52 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) women's basketball play on Saturday. Johnson slips to 2-9, 0-5 NAC while Thomas steps up to 2-4, 2-4 NAC.
The Badgers were led by first-year guard Brittany Robertson (Burlington, Vt./Burlington) who scored 22 points and went 8-for-8 from the free throw line. Senior guard Andrea Deuell (Milton, Vt./Milton) joined Robertson in double-figures with 16 points. Freshman center KC Cousineau (Bristol, Vt./Mount Abraham) scored five points and hauled down a team-best 11 rebounds.
Thomas was paced by Karin Bird's 29 points, nine rebounds, and five assists while forward Jasmine Bishop notched a double-double with 15 points and 16 rebounds.
The Terriers held JSC to 23% (16-71) shooting from floor while also forcing 28 Badger turnovers and outrebounding Johnson 58-46.
A Bird lay up with 10:09 remaining in the first half gave Thomas a 18-8 lead, their largest of the first half. Johnson would cut the lead to just three when Deuell drilled a 3-pointer from the right wing to make it 29-26 with 2:31 left in the stanza.
Thomas would score the game's next 14 points for a score of 43-26 two and half minutes into the second half. Johnson would close the gap to nine with with 13:43 left to play but would not get any closer.
Johnson will play at home in Carter Gymnasium for their next four games starting with Tuesday's 7:30 pm tip against Green Mountain College. Thomas will travel to Husson University on Tuesday night in their next game.
