Castleton Rallies Past Johnson 62-47

JOHNSON, Vt. – Johnson State College held a 26-16 halftime lead but saw visiting Castleton State College rally to pick up a 62-47 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) women's basketball win on Thursday night at Carter Gymnasium.  Castleton moves to 10-4 overall, 7-1 NAC while Johnson stands at 3-12, 1-8 NAC.

The Badgers received 18 points from freshman Brittany Robertson (Burlington, Vt./Burlington) and sophomore Jenessa Swainbank (Enosburg Falls, Vt./Enosburg) scored seven points and hauled down 10 rebounds.  Freshman KC Cousineau (Bristol, Vt./Mount Abraham) chipped in with six points and nine boards.

Castleton was led by Christine Jaques (Burlington, Vt./Burlington) and her 18-point, 11-steal effort while Tarryn Bolognani (Whitingham, Vt./Twin Valley) recorded 13 points and six rebounds.  Vanessa Powers (Plainfield, Vt./Twinfield) also reached double-figures with 10 points while adding six caroms.

Johnson held the Spartans to a 17% first half shooting effort to help gain the 26-16 halftime lead while also knocking down 4-8 3-point field goals.  Castleton would force a whopping 38 turnovers on the night, 20 in the second half, to spark the comeback.  Castleton would overtake the hosts for good with 11:38 left to play with a Powers jumper that started a 9-0 surge in under a minute of play capped by a Jaques 3-pointer to make it 45-37.

Johnson moves on to play at Green Mountain College on Saturday at 3:00 pm while Castleton looks toward a Saturday match up at home against Lyndon State College at 3:00 pm.
